Your notes just got a whole lot more worldly. With Popt 1.2, we’re introducing a much expanded version of our place tags, which can now include any point of interest. Besides places, we've made collections more useful thanks to sorting and grouping options, and improved tag insertion with a smarter way to paste them in your content. Let's dive in!

All the places

From restaurants and bars to museums, shops, parks, cinemas, and theaters, every spot can now live inside your notes and in your Collections tab, neatly organized and ready to explore. Whether you’re creating a travel itinerary, tracking favorite local spots, or planning a weekend outing, your world has never been easier to map. Let's see it in action:

  • Place tags appear in your notes just like any other tag
  • The Places collection now shows all your places grouped by geographical location
  • The Place card displays the phone number and website if available – just tap to call or browse
  • Tap Directions to get navigation directions in Apple Maps

How place tags work

Popt now packages all countries and all cities with a population of over 100’000. Those built-in places can be tagged as you type – just write Paris or New York and accept the tag suggestion. For points of interest and smaller localities, you can use the Insert tag menu (+ button) to search for pretty much any place in the world:

When you search for a place, you can decide to share your location with Popt in order to get more accurate results near you. Your location data remains private, we do not store it or share it with any third party. The search feature itself is powered by Apple's MapKit framework and benefits from the same level of privacy as searching in the Maps app.

We find  tagging places super useful in quite a few scenarios:

Trip planning
Create a page for your upcoming trip and add your hotel and the places you want to visit, such as museums, landmarks and restaurants. You can get directions directly from Popt and see your itinerary come together in one place.

Sharing organisation details
Let's say that your parents are taking care of your kids for the weekend. They've been invited to a birthday at 3pm on Saturday. You can document that in a Popt page, using tags for the address of the birthday, the main contact, the start and end times... then, simply share that page with them via airdrop. They'll be able to get directions, see the schedule, and even call the birthday's organiser, all from the Popt page you made for them. Nice!

Foodies
If you love discovering new places to eat, create your own restaurant list with spots you want to try or have already visited. You can rate each one, call directly from Popt to book a table, or jump to their website for more details. We recommend creating apage with one note per restaurant so you can easily add your observations too!

More organized collections

We  made the Collections tab much more useful:

  • Contacts can be sorted alphabetically, or by last tagged
  • Movies & TV Shows can be sorted by title or date added, and grouped by status or personal rating
  • Places can be filtered by broad category

It’s now super easy to keep track of TV shows you’re currently watching (group them by status), or find all your restaurants (filter by Food & Drinks category).

Smarter pasting

Meet a small but mighty improvement to how you tag things in Popt. If there’s no matching suggestion while you search, just tap the + button — Popt will offer the last words you typed so you can quickly add them as a new place, movie, or contact. Simple, fast, and intuitive.

Places are key to almost everything we plan and remember, from trips and dinners to errands and memories. With this update, they now have a home in Popt as well, organized, private, and beautifully connected to your notes. Whether you are planning your next getaway, sharing a school schedule, or building a restaurant wish list, Popt helps you keep your world close at hand.
