Notes aren’t just about tasks and dates - they’re also about the things that inspire you, the recommendations you want to remember, and the shows you don’t want to miss. That’s why we’ve added Movies & TV Shows to Popt version 1.1.
Just like with people, places, and dates, you can now insert your favourite films and series in your notes. Whether it’s a flick suggested over dinner, a show you’re halfway through, or a classic you want to revisit, Popt helps you capture those quickly and display them as rich widgets in your notes. This gives you instant access to trailers, streaming links, season dates and more.
And because your privacy is important, movie matching works offline first - so your text never leaves your device without your approval.
Seamlessly Curate Your Collection
Every title added to your notes can be found in the Collections tab as well. From there, you can:
- Watch the trailer without leaving Popt
- See where it’s streaming so you can start binging
- Organize by To Watch, Watching, or Watched
- Add your own rating
It’s your own private movie library, seamlessly integrated into your notes.

How Movie & TV Show Tags Work
1. Smart, Private Suggestions
When you type in a note, Popt quietly matches your text against trending titles. The magic? It happens offline. Behind the scenes, we compile a database of around 20,000 popular movies and series so you can find titles instantly - no internet required. This means that, as always in Popt, your words stay on your device.
2. Full Search When You Need It
Looking for something beyond the offline collection? Tap the + button and search the full TMDB (The Movie Database) catalogue, which includes over a million titles. You get both speed and privacy: offline when you’re jotting notes, and online when you want the whole world of movies at your fingertips.
Why We’re Excited
Movies and TV shows are part of our everyday conversations and plans. With this update, they’re now part of your notes too - private, organised, and more than just names.
Whether you’re creating a watchlist, keeping track of series you’re in the middle of, or collecting film recommendations from friends, Popt makes it a joy.
So next time someone says “What? You didn’t know that Cobra Kai was based on Karate Kid?” - you’ll have the perfect place to save both the show and the 1984 movie.
