What Are Popt Tags?

In Popt, we believe your notes should feel connected—like pieces of a bigger picture, not scattered scraps. That’s where tags come in. Tags are the building blocks of how you organise, browse, and rediscover your notes in Popt. Tags in Popt are more than just labels—they’re dynamic links to real things in your life. A tag can be a person, place, or date.

Rather than relying on folders or categories, you simply link your notes to real things: a person you’re planning something with, a place you want to remember, or a date that matters. We call these links tags, and they help your notes stay relevant, easy to find, and beautifully organised—without needing to overthink structure.

Whether you're tracking borrowed items, collecting restaurant tips for your next trip, or planning a group outing, tags keep everything context-rich and instantly accessible.

Why Use Tags?

1. No More Hunting for Notes

Popt Tags group your notes around the people, places, and dates they relate to—so when you're looking for something, you just go to the tag (in Collections). Need to remember what you were planning with a friend? Tap that friend. Want to revisit ideas for Rome? Just go to that place tag. Simple.

2. Everything Connected, Automatically

Because tags are links, not labels, you’re not locked into a rigid structure. A single note can be linked to multiple tags—like a friend, a city, and a travel date—so it shows up wherever it’s relevant. That means no duplicating or guessing where to file something.

3. A Smarter Timeline

When your notes are tagged with dates, Popt can show them in a timeline. You’ll see your past and future plans unfold naturally, grouped by what they’re about and who they’re with. It’s like a journal and planner combined.

4. Fewer Folders, More Flow

Tags eliminate the need for folders and subfolders. You don’t have to decide whether a note goes in "Work" or "Events" or "Sandra"—you just tag it, and let Popt handle the grouping. It’s flexible, fast, and far more forgiving if you’re the type who thinks while typing.

Types of Tags in Popt

1. Contact Tags

Tag a person from your contacts—great for shared tasks, borrowed items, or event planning. Tapping their name brings up everything linked to them.

2. Place Tags

Link a note to a specific location (like “Rome” or “Office”). It’s perfect for travel planning, restaurant lists, or local reminders.

3. Date Tags

Add dates to notes to plan ahead or remember something from the past. Combine with a contact or place for rich timelines.

And if something needs a nudge, you can also set a reminder—so Popt not only remembers for you, but reminds you too.

How to Add Tags

Tagging in Popt is quick, intuitive, and designed to fit the way you naturally take notes. You can tag as you type, or use the insert menu when you want more control.

1. Tag As You Type

As you write, just mention a person, place, or date—and Popt will recognise it. If the contact mentioned is already in your contact list, or if the place name or date is clear, you’ll see a subtle suggestion to turn it into a tag. Tap to confirm, and it becomes a link right in your note.

It’s seamless and keeps you in the flow, without needing to stop and organise.

2. Use the Insert Menu

For more precise tagging, tap the + button in the editor. From there, you can:

  • Insert a date using the calendar picker
  • Add a page tag manually
  • Link a contact from your contact list by simply typing their name

This method is ideal when you want to be deliberate about the context of your note.

Browse Tags in Collections and Timeline

All your tags live in one central place:

  • The Collections tab shows all your tagged contacts and places, making it easy to jump into related notes.
  • All your dates appear in Timeline view, where you can scroll through past, present, and upcoming events, plans, or moments—all connected to the notes you’ve written.

Popt Tags are designed to make your notes feel connected, not cluttered. By linking your thoughts to people, places, and moments in time, you build a more organised, searchable, and meaningful note-taking experience—without lifting a finger to “organise” in the traditional sense.

Popt is currently in closed beta, but it will be available to try for free starting September 2025.
